The demand for biopolymers in Packaging is steadily growing, especially for Polylactic Acid (PLA). Omya Smartfill is a calcium carbonate filler that has been specifically developped for the use in biopolymer compounds and shows significantly improved the performance, especially in Polylactic Acid. While conventional calcium carbonate products lead to PLA degradation due to hydrolysis during processing, Omya Smartfill shows almost no hydrolysis when processed at filler loads of up to 40%.
